Thanksgiving week went by in a flash. Madeline and I arrived in New York Tuesday morning and spent the day hopping from a meet-n-greet at my dad’s office to the Thanksgiving Feast at my mom’s nursery school to my sister’s for some quality cuzzie playtime. We ended up spending the night at her house, so that we could celebrate my dad’s birthday with Italian food (I had the ravioli parmigiana) and a Steve’s cake. (Steve’s is what we call ColdStone Creamery in our family- ColdStone’s ->StoneCold’s ->Stone Cold Steve Austin -> Steve’s.) The coffee ice cream/devils food cake/chocolate ganache/Heath Bar topped cake I picked out was sinful- a precursor to all of the gluttonous eating to follow in the week.
We started our Wednesday morning off right with some New York bagels with olive cream cheese (my favorite- I ate this two more times while I was home). Then we spent the rest of the day hanging around, watching the babies play. If you’re wondering if this could take up an entire day, the answer is yes. Our two little girls, just eight months apart, are night and day in the personality department. Madeline is an observer and Amelia is a doer. The girl is only eight months old, and she’s already able to crawl, pull herself up and almost stand on her own. Madeline spent most of the time watching Meelie scramble around to all of the toys, mastering them in seconds. But once she realized she was a threat to her own toy situation, Maddie started up with some non-gentle, non-loving pats to Amelia’s head. Amelia’s mommy laughed, while Madeline’s mommy sternly told her all about sharing and being gentle with babies. These are the days, guys…
Thanksgiving was spent in East Hampton, at my aunt’s house, with fifteen of our closest family and friends. Although Maddie was SUPER clingy (I couldn’t really blame her; it was the third house she’d been in since we started our trip- just a tad overwhelming), we had a really wonderful time. The food was fantastic (it always is when Aunt Patricia cooks)! My favorite dish? Hands down- the mac-n-cheese.
Friday I stuffed my face with veggie quiche, as I edited my 17 year old cousins college application essays. How he is applying for college already is beyond me. I’m pretty sure he’s still in diapers.
By the time we got back to my parent’s condo, it was a quick dinner for Maddie and to bed with her. Then it was sushi, some shows and to bed for the rest of us, before an early flight back home Saturday.
I love New York, and I can’t wait to go back in three short weeks for the most wonderful time of the year!
