What Pre-Deployment Looked Like For Our Army Family

The morning he deployedPre-deployment was a painful but also really lovely time for our family. We put so much effort into making Andrew’s last days home fun and memory-filled (especially for Madeline), that they ended up being some of our best days yet. There were dance parties, snuggles, late bedtimes, tons of kisses, favorite foods, too many desserts, geography lessons, extra bedtime stories, tickle fights and daddy/daughter dates, plus quiet whispers in the dark, tears, hand-holding, I-love-yous and lots of photos and videos.Daddy and littlesDaddy and BabiesCrazy kids and DaddyThe impending deployment forced our family to focus inward during what could normally be a very frazzled, stressful and isolating time. And even though, today, we’re minus one here at home, we’re definitely stronger than ever.

every soldier deserves a hero’s welcome.

It’s a good thing I saw this commercial before the actual Super Bowl, because if my first time had been in a living room full of soldiers, I might have embarrassed myself. Heck, I can’t even write about it without crying! See for yourself…

I’ve been that woman at the bottom of the escalator (or sitting on bleachers, as it were). I’ve woken up early, done my hair and make up, gotten dressed (could she have picked a cuter outfit, btw!?!) and literally watched the minutes tick by until it was time. Time to welcome my LT home from war.

Thanks for the reminder, Budweiser. I’ll make sure to pick up a six-pack before the big game!

mff.

1. My plans for this weekend include laundry, but what I’d really like to do is throw out all of my dirty clothes and go shopping for new clothes.

2. I consider the Labor Day holiday a really nice break from work, but not labor (see above).

3. My favorite meal for cookouts is a brat on a bun with spicy brown mustard, a baked potato with sour cream, butter and cheese and a beer, but my scale wouldn’t agree with that choice.

4. So far, my favorite part of summer has been our new patio set that we got so we can sit and have dinner outside (even though we’ve only done it a handful of times due to mosquitos).

5. When it comes to deployments, my philosophy is (isn’t it obvious)- keep calm and soldier on.
