baby wilhelm 2.0.

On April 28, 2014 (my 28th birthday), I completed the first trimester of my second pregnancy. Baby Wilhelm 2.0 is due to arrive the first week of November, and we could not be more thrilled!baby wilhelm 2 The night we found out I was pregnant, I asked Madeline (who wasn’t saying much at the time) if she wanted to be a big sister. She looked up at me, nodding. “Yeah!” she said without hesitation. I picked her up and squeezed her, tears in my eyes, overwhelmed by the fact that by the end of the year we would be a family of four. We would have two babies.

It’s hard to say if she knew what she was agreeing to then, but Maddie has definitely gotten behind the “Mommy has a baby in her belly” idea. She smiled when she saw the first ultrasound photo- “beebee!” At some point each day, she lifts up my shirt, rests her hand my stomach and says “beebee!” She’s also been known to steal my phone, queue up the video I took when I first heard the baby’s heartbeat (Andrew was jumping out of an airplane and couldn’t be at that appointment), press play and murmur “my beebee,” while giggling. This big sister is ready for action.

What is your best advice for prepping Baby #1 for the arrival of Baby #2?

  1. Just keep her involved, everything you can do to make sure she feels like this is HER BABY, not just Mom & Dads baby. There are lots of great books about what t means to be the older sibling that are simple and fun. We also had our baby have a gift at the hospital when siblings came to meet them for the first time! Baby can’t be SO bad if it brings presents 🙂
    CONGRATS!!!!

    • We’ve been saying our baby in the hopes she feels like it’s hers, too. Give her some ownership and love for it. Gifts from baby to big sister? Brilliant!

  2. I am so excited!!!!!!! Bring on more Wilhelm cuteness!
