On April 28, 2014 (my 28th birthday), I completed the first trimester of my second pregnancy. Baby Wilhelm 2.0 is due to arrive the first week of November, and we could not be more thrilled! The night we found out I was pregnant, I asked Madeline (who wasn’t saying much at the time) if she wanted to be a big sister. She looked up at me, nodding. “Yeah!” she said without hesitation. I picked her up and squeezed her, tears in my eyes, overwhelmed by the fact that by the end of the year we would be a family of four. We would have two babies.
It’s hard to say if she knew what she was agreeing to then, but Maddie has definitely gotten behind the “Mommy has a baby in her belly” idea. She smiled when she saw the first ultrasound photo- “beebee!” At some point each day, she lifts up my shirt, rests her hand my stomach and says “beebee!” She’s also been known to steal my phone, queue up the video I took when I first heard the baby’s heartbeat (Andrew was jumping out of an airplane and couldn’t be at that appointment), press play and murmur “my beebee,” while giggling. This big sister is ready for action.
What is your best advice for prepping Baby #1 for the arrival of Baby #2?
