My Project: Slow Cooker Chicken & Dumplings
I tried this: May 2012
Alterations: I added a little heavy cream (maybe 2-3tbs) to the broth to thicken it up before adding my dumplings. I served with shredded cheddar cheese on top.
Thoughts: I’ve never made nor eaten “chicken and dumplings” before. But dumplings reminds me of matzoh balls (which I love), so I figured I would really like it. Turns out, my husband LOVED this dinner. He said it was one of my best. So heart and filling. Personally, I had a few gripes. I didn’t prefer the herb-y taste, so I think next time I make this I will cut way back on the herbs I toss in. I’d also make my dumplings bigger (and more plentiful) and add more potatoes. The shredded cheddar took this soup to the next level, and I wouldn’t want it without. A final thought- I feel misled by the pinned photo of this dish. My version did NOT look creamy and golden, nor did I have pieces of bone in chicken or peas (it wasn’t called for). Instead It ended up looking a little bit grayish and much more soup-like, with shredded chicken. Not NEARLY as appetizing as I thought it would look…
